My car's been having ignition troubles for the last few weeks or so and I thought it was the kill switch being a bit loose. It always started when I tightened it until Friday when it died as soon as I let off the key.
So the ignition switch is busted and that's okay. O'Reilly sourced me a replacement within 24 hours and I was on my way. Then I take a look at the part already there and it's not good. My car's got a kill switch and that's good for security and all, but it's apparently hard-wired into the switch...using electrical tape and crimp connectors from 1995. I tried cleaning the contacts on the old switch, but they're too far gone to be saved.
Just because I know how to fix it doesn't mean I want to fix it (especially in 95 degree F weather) so I installed the new ignition switch around the old one. The steering column cover doesn't want to go back on, so now it looks like I'm driving a stolen car. On the plus side, it's better than having no car.

Scotch lock a bypass on the kill switch. Turn car on, blast the air con, cut strip crimp then connect new switch. It'll be a skill tester, see if you can do it without shorting anything. You'll blow a fuse or burn the car down, either way it'll make a great post hahah

That's probably what I'll do. I figured I'll grab a cheap soldering iron and fix it up nice and good.
